Compassion is the Key to Change
"The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy... Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars.  Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.  Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."  MLK Jr.

The sermon and service will be a musical and spoken word presentation of ideas about progressive social and personal change… from the belief that compassion is at the center of all sustainable growth and progress, and has been at the center of every sustained social movement. Our anger is hard to carry for too long. Working against something is infinitely harder than working toward something. Hope is the fuel for growth.

Joe Jencks tours full time throughout the US and Canada, opening hearts and minds through performances of musical beauty, social conscience, and spiritual exploration. Joe performs in dozens of UU congregations annually. He has won numerous songwriting awards, released six CDs in seven years, and inspired audiences with his lyric voice and compassionate soul. He has shared the stage with folk luminaries including Pete Seeger, Holly Near, Utah Phillips and John McCutcheon. Joe's recordings will be available after the services.
