Dear Friends in Music,
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Wishing you well on this fine Mach morning. (Snow here in northern Illinois…)
I am delighted to share an online concert on Monday, March 17th with my friend, mentor, colleague, and all around amazing musician and songwriter, Charlie King. The show will start at 7:00 PM Eastern. (6:00 PM CT/ 5 MTN/ 4 Pacific). Charlie and I will offer this shared concert via ZOOM. Ticket buyers will receive the Zoom link before the event on Monday. The show will also be recorded. So, if you are unable to attend live (or just want to watch again), ticket buyers will receive the link to view the recording within 48 hours of the show to enjoy in your own time!
To buy a ticket please visit: https://charlieking.org/p/69/Event-Tickets-click-GIGS-for-all-events. Questions? Please email Griffin (gtmcenery@gmail.com) or contact me directly.
Charlie and I shared a St. Patrick’s Day show a few years ago and had so much fun, we decided to do it again. I hope you can join us. Ticket links will be sent out almost up until showtime - and as noted - you can watch the show after the fact via the same link. We will have some social time in the room after the concert, as well. So, join us for a lovely celebration that is an alternative to the pubs in this St. Patrick’s Day!
PT / Recovery
In other news, my shoulder is on the mend. But the work of recovery from a significant injury and surgery is arduous and occasionally disheartening. (As I am sure many of you know.) Thanks for the cards, emails, and support for the PT/Recovery fund. You are the best. And you are helping me reach for total recovery. The surgeon said this was a 6 month recovery. He was remarkably optimistic. A PT recently said to me that while many abilities would be back in form inside of 6 months - that for me to recover fully might be as long as 18 months. But I have spent decades cultivating specific skill-sets on stringed instruments. And between the injury and surgery, half-a-million years of Hominid evolution has been superseded and rewired. It will take some time, diligence, and patience.

THANK YOU!!!
I have good healers and practitioners, and will continue on the road to healing. And I also understand at this point in my life that the music does not live in my left arm, it is in my heart, in my whole being. So it will continue to flow. As will the healing. I am grateful to be slowly re-entering the world musically, at a measured pace. And grateful for all of the support from so many directions.
I have a few newer songs that I will get up on YouTube in the next week or so - and I will send links when they are posted.
As I consider the shape of the U.S. and the world, past - present - and future, I have been thinking deeply on two writings, both from Nobel Prize recipients. One from President Barack Obama, and one from Rabindranath Tagore - the Poet of Bengal (1861-1941). I have posted those writings below for your consideration.
In Gratitude & Song,
~ Joe Jencks (3-16-25)
“The promotion of human rights cannot be about exhortation alone. At times, it must be coupled with painstaking diplomacy. I know that engagement with repressive regimes lacks the satisfying purity of indignation. But I also know that sanctions without outreach -- condemnation without discussion -- can carry forward only a crippling status quo. No repressive regime can move down a new path unless it has the choice of an open door.” ~ Barack Obama, Nobel Lecture, Dec. 10, 2009
Where The Mind is Free ~ Rabindranath Tagore
“Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms toward perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action -
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.”
